HIGH SCHOOL EXHIBIT

2010 Student Art Show Winners - Click Here

Student Artist PhotoFor 10 years, the High School Art Exhibit has been a popular feature of Art on the Square and has grown to be one of the country’s largest independent student exhibits. Each year 55 Art Instructors from over 30 Southern Illinois high schools are invited to participate. From this pool an average of 250 students apply with their “masterpieces”.

This year they will be vying for almost $4,000 in prizes including the Illinois American Sponsorship Award and Trophy. Other cash prizes feature the 13 awards from Art on the Square for Best of Show, Merit and Excellence totalling $1900. There are also cash prizes from the Art on the Square Committee and Volunteer Award, and the Marvin's Camera Photography Award. Eight unique awards involve the participating Art on the Square exhibitors. They evaluate and then ballot on the students’ pieces. They also offer critical evaluations for the students. The St. Clair County Awards, awarded by Mark Kern, began in 2009 with a $300 first place, a $150 second place and a $50 third place. These are sponsored by Becker, Paulson, Hoerner and Thompson, PC. and awarded to a St. Clair County resident.

Four unanimously popular awards added in 2010 were the People's Choice Awards. These ballots are given to the viewing public on Friday and Saturday only in order to tabulate them by Sunday's awards ceremony at 2:00.

New in 2011 are the Belleville Kiwanis Club awarding three awards totalling $250, and awards given by Dick Blick Art Supplies, the St. Clair County Historical Society and Delta Kappa Gamma Women's Educators Sorority.
