Each year Art on the Square works to enhance the art programs of area schools through the Artist-in-Residence Program. In 2007, with additional support given by the Illinois Arts Council, the Artist-in-Residence Program expanded from five to seven schools. For 2008, there will be as many as nine schools involved. This program places professional artists in the schools for a number of days proceeding the weekend of Art on the Square. Each artist is responsible for developing a unique learning experience for the students.
Participating artists eagerly look forward to being a part of this curriculum. By giving of their time and talent, they feel they are able to expose these students to art in a very personal way. Each year the artists represent a variety of mediums, techniques and artistic disciplines. Artists find that many of their students attend Art on the Square and are eager to see more of their professional work.
